Subtraction Sentences to 5
Writing taking away as a number sentence
We write taking away as a sentence too. Read them out loud!
5 − 1 = 4
4 − 2 = 2
5 − 3 = 2
3 − 3 = 0
A subtraction sentence uses the − and = signs. Read it: “five minus one equals four”. Note: 3 − 3 = 0 — take them all away and none are left!
