Using adding to solve stories
Word problems are little stories with maths inside! We read, then add to solve them.
Sam has 6 apples 🍎. His mum gives him 5 more. How many does Sam have now?
6 + 5 = 11 apples
A word problem is a maths story. Find the two numbers (6 and 5), decide to add (he gets more), then solve: 6 + 5 = 11. Always write the answer with what it is — 11 apples!
